Meraki barista workshop on your own espresso machine

A Meraki barista workshop at home is intended for coffee lovers who not only want to operate their own machine but also want to better understand what happens during espresso preparation. During the workshop, you will work directly with your own Meraki machine, your own coffee beans, and – if you want to practice milk drinks – the milk you normally use at home.

Depending on the workshop variant, we will work on choosing and cleaning coffee beans, adjusting the coffee grinder and espresso extraction, and frothing milk with basic latte art. For example, you will learn what changes when you make the grind finer or coarser, how much coffee you use in the filter basket, and how much espresso you ultimately let flow into the cup.

The goal is that afterwards, you better understand which step you need to adjust when your coffee doesn't taste the way you want it to.

Your Meraki can do a lotβ€”but your coffee doesn't always taste the way you want it to yet.

A good espresso machine makes it easier to work accurately, but good espresso still results from a series of choices that must align. Especially when you're just starting, it's difficult to determine which step to adjust when an espresso tastes too sour, bitter, thin, or inconsistent.

  • You keep looking for the right grind size

One coffee runs through too quickly, and with another bean, the espresso barely seems to come out of the machine. You adjust the grinder, but you don't always know whether to go finer or coarser, or when to stop adjusting.

  • Your espresso is good one time, and different the next

You're using the same machine, but getting different results. During the workshop, you'll learn to look at the amount of coffee in the filter basket, the amount of espresso in the cup, and the time it takes to extract, so you can better explain the changes.

  • Steaming milk and latte art remain tricky

Sometimes the milk is too airy, too thick, or full of large bubbles. You'll learn how to add air, swirl the milk into a fine, glossy texture, and then pour it with control for your first simple latte art figures.

Can I have a private barista workshop at my Meraki?

Yes. During the workshop, you will work at home on your own Meraki espresso machine. Depending on the chosen variant, you will learn about coffee beans and cleaning, espresso extraction and grinder adjustment, and milk frothing with basic latte art.

Who is this workshop for?

For Meraki owners who want to learn how to make better espresso, understand their grind and extraction more thoroughly, steam milk more precisely, or learn basic latte art. The workshop is suitable for someone just starting out as well as someone who has been making coffee for a while but keeps encountering a specific problem.

Key Details

Barista Focuslasts approximately 90 minutes and covers a maximum of two main topics. Barista Masterlasts approximately 120 minutes and covers all three main topics. The workshop takes place privately at your home, and one to five participants are included in the same workshop price. You will always receive a personalized total price beforehand.

Good espresso doesn't start with one perfect setting

When an espresso doesn't taste good, it's tempting to immediately adjust just one setting. However, coffee beans, grind size, amount of ground coffee, amount of espresso, and extraction time all work together. If you change one component, the taste can change again.

That's why during the workshop, you don't simply learn one setting that you should always use afterwards. You first learn to understand which variables you can control. For example, you'll discover why a new bag of coffee might require a different grind setting, why espresso that extracts too quickly often tastes different from a slow extraction, and how to regain control step by step.

This approach also helps when you later buy different coffee beans. You won't have to start from scratch again, because you'll have a better understanding of what to examine, taste, and adjust.

You don't learn to remember one setting, but to understand how to consistently make a good espresso yourself.

Choosing coffee beans and keeping your machine clean

Not every coffee bean reacts the same way in an espresso machine. You will learn to recognize the difference between Arabica and Robusta, different flavour profiles and lighter, medium and darker roasts. We will also look at freshness and roast date, so that you better understand why one bag of coffee is easier to adjust than another.

Cleaning is part of the same section. We will discuss which parts of your espresso machine, coffee grinder and steam wand regularly need attention and why old coffee residue, milk and limescale can ultimately affect flavour and operation. This way, in addition to a coffee routine, you also build up a simple maintenance routine.

Understanding Espresso Extraction and Adjusting Your Grinder

Here you will get hands-on with the basics of espresso. We'll look at how much ground coffee you use, how much espresso ultimately comes out, and how long it takes. Then you taste the result.

If your espresso runs too fast, we'll investigate what changes are needed. If it runs very slowly or tastes bitter, we'll re-examine the grind and ratio. You'll learn to consciously set your coffee grinder finer or coarser instead of randomly turning the dial. By making, measuring, and comparing multiple espressos, you'll develop a consistent workflow that you can later use independently.

What you will do differently after the workshop

You'll know better which setting to change

Frequently asked questions about the Meraki barista workshop

Can I attend the workshop on any Meraki espresso machine?

Yes. The workshop is intended for a working semi-automatic espresso machine with a coffee grinder and steam wand. We will work directly with your own Meraki and focus on the steps you need for choosing coffee beans, making espresso, adjusting the grind, frothing milk, and maintenance. The workshop is a training session, not a technical repair service.

What is the difference between Barista Focus and Barista Master?

For the Barista Focussession, which lasts approximately 90 minutes, you choose a maximum of two out of the three main components. For the Barista Mastersession, which lasts approximately 120 minutes, all three main components are covered. The components are coffee beans and cleaning, espresso extraction and grinder adjustment, and milk frothing with basic latte art. Both variants are private and are given on your own Meraki.

What do I need to prepare for the workshop?

We're here to make things easy for you! Your first step to getting the right size is checking out our size chart. It's got all the info you need to measure yourself and find your perfect fit. We also provide extra details on each product page, like the model's size and fit descriptions. If you're still not sure, our team is always happy to help. Just send us a message!

Can I take the Meraki workshop with my partner, friend, or family member?

Yes. One to five participants fall within the same workshop price. So, participating together is fine, for example with your partner, brother, sister, or friend. However, please note that the available practice time will be divided among the participants. An additional suitable espresso machine can also be brought along, but switching between machines reduces the time available per machine.

How do I apply and book?

First, fill in the application form with details including your workshop location, Meraki model, number of participants, and desired workshop variant. You will then receive a personal message to discuss the possibilities and available times. Once everything is agreed upon, you will receive a final confirmation with the total price and payment link. After payment, the workshop is definitively booked.

I have another question...

Learn to use your Meraki espresso machine better in your own kitchen

A Meraki espresso machine gives you many options for making good coffee at home, but ultimately your coffee beans, grind, quantities, method, and taste assessment together determine what ends up in the cup. That's why, during a private workshop, you won't practice on a standard machine elsewhere, but on the Meraki you use yourself every morning.

Do you mainly want to understand why espresso keeps changing? Then the online module The 3 Golden Rules of Espressoaligns well with how we look at grind, coffee quantity, espresso quantity, and extraction time during the workshop.

Good maintenance remains important afterward. In the module Cleaning and Maintenanceyou'll learn how contamination in the machine, grinder, and steam wand, among other things, can affect your daily coffee routine.

If you often make cappuccino, a suitable milk pitcher for latte artwill help you practice milk texture and controlled pouring at home.

Workshops are primarily given in Utrecht, Central Netherlands, and surrounding parts of the Randstad. Other locations are possible by arrangement. Therefore, you will always receive a personalized total price in advance, which includes the agreed travel and practical costs.
