Training on your own Profitec and coffee grinder

Explanation tailored to your specific model

Learn to measure, taste, and readjust yourself

Personal explanation without unnecessary coffee jargon

At-home barista workshop for your Profitec espresso machine

A Profitec offers many possibilities, but a good machine won't make the most important choices for you when brewing espresso. During this private in-home barista workshop, you'll therefore work directly with your own Profitec, coffee grinder, coffee beans, and daily routine.

Geert-Jan de Baristamanhelps you understand what happens when an espresso runs too fast or too slow, tastes sour or bitter, or suddenly reacts differently after opening new coffee beans. You'll learn how much coffee to use, how much espresso ends up in the cup, how long it takes, and how to evaluate that data along with the taste.

The workshop will also examine the capabilities of your specific Profitec. A GO requires a different approach than a PRO 400, MOVE, RIDE, or DRIVE. The goal is for you not to remain dependent on one good setting, but to know how to readjust yourself later on.

Your Profitec can do a lot, but a good espresso and beautiful milk foam still require technique

A Profitec gives you a lot of control over espresso and steam, but the machine does not automatically determine which grind, amount of coffee, temperature, or steaming technique suits your coffee. As a result, even with good equipment, you may struggle with inconsistent espresso, settings you don't fully understand, or milk that becomes too coarse, too thin, or difficult to pour.

  • Your espresso doesn't taste the same every day

One espresso tastes pleasant and the next is suddenly sour, bitter, thin, or too strong. You change the grind, the amount of coffee, or a setting on the machine, but you don't always know which change was truly necessary. As a result, adjusting quickly becomes a matter of trial and error rather than targeted correction.

  • You don't know which settings on your Profitec to use when

Depending on your model, you may encounter temperature settings, pre-infusion, or other options. Without a clear foundation, it is difficult to determine when such a setting truly helps and when you should first look at the grinder, amount of coffee, or amount of espresso.

  • Frothing milk doesn't always work out the same way

Sometimes you get smooth, glossy milk, and other times large bubbles, overly thick foam, or milk that doesn't blend well with the espresso. You'll learn how to add air, swirl the milk, and stop heating at the right time, so you can create a finer and more pourable milk texture yourself.

Can I learn to work with my own Profitec at home?

Yes. During the workshop, you will work on your own working Profitec semi-automatic machine and your own working coffee grinder. You will not only learn which settings work now but, more importantly, how to independently measure, taste, and determine which adjustment makes sense in the future.

Who is this training for?

For owners of a Profitec GO, PRO 300, MOVE, PRO 400, JUMP, PRO 500, PRO 600, RIDE, PRO 700 or DRIVE who want to better understand their own machine. The workshop is suitable for someone who has just bought the machine as well as for a home barista who has been making espresso for a while but is looking for more control and repeatability.

Important to know in advance

Your Profitec machine and coffee grinder must be in good working order. The workshop provides training and is not a repair or technical service. The Profitec PRO 800 is a lever-operated machine and is therefore excluded from this workshop. You can participate alone or with a maximum of five people within the same workshop setup.

A good machine doesn't replace espresso dialing in

A Profitec can maintain temperature stability, deliver steam, and, depending on the model, provide extra control over things like pre-infusion or water flow. But the machine cannot determine whether your coffee bean needs a finer grind today, how much coffee you use in the filter basket, or when the taste is balanced for you.

That is why control starts with a consistent method of working. You weigh how much ground coffee you use, measure how much espresso comes out, keep track of the time, and then taste the result. Only then do you purposefully change one setting.

With The 3 Golden Rules of Espressoyou can continue to practice this way of thinking after the workshop. This way, the Profitec remains an instrument that you control, instead of a machine whose settings you keep copying.

The most important skill is not finding one good setting, but being able to find a good setting yourself again later.

This is how you learn to use your Profitec better, step by step

During the workshop, we work from three components that together determine what ultimately ends up in your cup: the coffee beans you use, the adjustment of the espresso and coffee grinder, and the frothing of milk. Which topics are covered in detail depends on the chosen workshop variant and your learning goals.

1. Understand which coffee beans suit your taste and Profitec

We'll start with the coffee you use at home. You'll learn what differences in origin, Arabica and Robusta, roast, and freshness can mean for the taste in your cup. A dark espresso blend, for example, can behave differently than a lighter coffee or a single origin. Therefore, you won't just look at what's on the packaging, but you'll taste what your own beans do in your Profitec. We'll also discuss how to store coffee and which daily and periodic cleaning helps prevent old coffee residues from unnecessarily affecting the taste. This way, you'll better understand why the same machine needs to be re-calibrated with different coffee.

2. Learn how to precisely dial in your espresso and grinder

Next, you'll get hands-on with making espresso. You'll weigh the amount of ground coffee you use, measure how much espresso ends up in the cup, and time how long it takes. Then you'll taste the result. If the espresso flows too quickly and tastes thin or sour, or if it flows very slowly and tastes heavy or bitter, you'll learn to determine which adjustment makes sense. Often, this starts with setting the coffee grinder finer or coarser. We will also look at the capabilities of your specific Profitec, such as temperature settings or pre-infusion if your model has them. The goal is for you to be able to make adjustments yourself later when you use different coffee beans.

3. Learn to froth milk using the steam power of your Profitec

What you can improve yourself after the workshop

You know when the coffee grinder needs to be set finer or coarser

You don't just assess the brewing time, but combine the amount of coffee, the amount of espresso, time, and taste. This allows for more targeted adjustments when a new coffee reacts differently.

What you can improve yourself after the workshop

You understand which features of your Profitec are truly relevant

You will learn the difference between the espresso basics and the additional features of your model. This way, you won't change the temperature, pre-infusion, or flow when the actual problem lies, for example, with the grind or dosage.

What you can improve yourself after the workshop

You can reuse the same method later

The workshop is not aimed at finding one perfect setting for one bag of beans. You will learn a consistent method of measuring, tasting, and correcting that you can reapply as soon as beans, circumstances, or taste preferences change.

Frequently asked questions about the Profitec home barista workshop

Which Profitec espresso machines is the workshop suitable for?

The workshop is suitable for a working Profitec semi-automatic machine with a working separate coffee grinder. This includes the GO, PRO 300, MOVE, PRO 400, JUMP, PRO 500, PRO 600, RIDE, PRO 700 and DRIVE. Even with an older model, we will look at the possibilities of the specific version you have at home. The PRO 800 is not suitable because it is a lever espresso machine, and manual lever machines are outside the scope of this workshop. Defective machines or coffee grinders are also not suitable.

Will the workshop be different for a GO, PRO 400 or DRIVE?

Yes. The fundamentals of espresso remain the same, but how you use the machine differs. With a GO, working with a single boiler is a factor. With the PRO 400, JUMP, and PRO 500, the heat exchanger is taken into account. With dual-boilers like the PRO 300, MOVE, PRO 600, RIDE, PRO 700, and DRIVE, temperature control and the separate coffee and steam systems can play a different role. Features such as pre-infusion or flow control are only covered if your specific model actually has that function.

Should I choose Barista Focus or Barista Master?

We're here to make things easy for you! Your first step to getting the right size is checking out our size chart. It's got all the info you need to measure yourself and find your perfect fit. How much does a Profitec barista workshop at home cost?

Barista Focusis available from €179 and Barista Masterfrom €219. These starting prices apply to locations in Utrecht with a limited travel distance from Geert-Jan de Baristaman'sdeparture address. Your final total price depends on the workshop variant, location, travel distance, and practical feasibility. You will always receive a personalized total price in advance, which includes VAT, preparation, travel time, travel costs, and any parking costs.

What do I need to prepare for the workshop?

Make sure your Profitec and coffee grinder are working properly. Preferably prepare at least 250 grams of the coffee beans you normally use, along with a suitable tamper, milk pitcher, cleaning cloths and espresso or cappuccino cups. If you want to froth milk and practice latte art, make sure you have at least one liter of chilled milk, and preferably a bit more if there are multiple participants. Approximately two square meters of clear workspace is needed around the machine, with a power outlet and a sink with running water in the immediate vicinity. Geert-Jan will bring, among other things, a precision scale, shot glass, various barista tools, cleaning agents and a bag of Aficionadocoffee.

I have another question...

Learn to re-tune your Profitec at home when you change coffee

Buying a Profitec is often the beginning of a longer journey as a home barista. As you develop your palate, you'll realize that settings can't remain the same for every coffee bean. A new roast, a different roast date, or a different flavor profile can cause the espresso to extract faster or slower, and taste different.

That's precisely why the workshop isn't about noting down a single grind setting or a single temperature. You'll learn a sequence you can use to start over later: weighing coffee, measuring espresso, checking extraction time, tasting, and then making one targeted change.

If you want to continue practicing this foundation after the workshop, an accurate coffee scale with a timer from Barista Essentialswill help you consistently control quantity and time. If you notice that the ground coffee is uneven in your portafilter basket, you can also explore how a WDT tool for distributing ground coffeefits into your workflow.

Are you still unsure if your question is truly Profitec-specific? Then first read about how the private barista workshop at home on your own espresso machineis generally structured.

The goal remains the same: not just to brew a better espresso today, but to understand how you can adjust tomorrow when your coffee changes.

☕ Profitec home barista workshop on your own espresso machine

Have you invested in a Profitec espresso machine, but find that good espresso doesn't come out of the machine naturally yet? During a private home barista workshop, you will learn to work with your own Profitec, your own coffee grinder, and the coffee beans you use at home.

Geert-Jan de Baristaman doesn't just look at one setting that works today. You will learn how to compare dosage, espresso quantity, extraction time, and taste yourself, when to adjust your coffee grinder finer or coarser, and which functions of your specific Profitec are relevant.

This takes into account the differences between, for example, a GO, PRO 300, MOVE, PRO 400, JUMP, PRO 500, PRO 600, RIDE, PRO 700, and DRIVE. A single-boiler machine requires a different approach than an espresso machine with a heat exchanger (HX) or a dual boiler. PID, pre-infusion, and flow control will only be covered if your model actually has these features.

If you want to continue practicing measuring and correcting espresso after the personal training, then The 3 Golden Rules of Espresso is a practical follow-up.
