Barista tools for Solis: choose by model and size

For a Solis Grind & Infuse Pro, you need different tools than for a Triple Heat. In this collection, you can compare filter holders, hand tampers, and a tamper distributor for those two models. With a 54 mm bottomless portafilter on the Grind & Infuse Pro, you use the original filter basket. Do you have a Compact 1018 or another Solis model? Read the model selection below first.

A different container or prepare it first?

Choosing a new portafilter is primarily a matter of preference. With a double spout, you pour in two directions; with a naked portafilter, you can see the bottom of the filter basket during extraction. This can help you spot uneven flow. The portafilter itself won't correct an incorrect grind or poor distribution. If your current portafilter works well for you, there's no need to replace it.

With a hand tamper, you decide how much pressure to apply. A click tamper provides a tactile indication of when to stop, while an adjustable tamper distributor combines two steps into one. First, choose the right working surface, then the method that suits you. A replacement filter basket may have a different inner diameter or rim. The tool should fit without forcing it; more pressure won't fix an incorrect size.

My advice: first compare your dose, espresso yield, and extraction time using a coffee scale. Distribute the grounds before tamping; a WDT tool can help break up clumps. Work on a stable tamper mat. This will help you develop a consistent routine before adding more tools.

Frequently Asked Questions

Collapsible row

54 mm indicates the filter basket system; 53.3 mm is the diameter of the tamping surface that fits into the basket. For the Grind & Infuse Pro, Barista Essentials specifies that smaller tool size. If you have replaced the original basket, re-check the inner diameter and the free movement of the tamper.

Collapsible row

With the 54 mm Sage version on a Solis Grind & Infuse Pro, use the original Solis filter basket. This is an explicit limitation of Barista Essentials. The inclusion of a basket with the portafilter is therefore no guarantee that this particular basket will work with your Solis. Also check that the portafilter screws in normally; do not force it.

Collapsible row

No. For the Solis Triple Heat, the supplier specifies the particular 58 mm Sage version. A 58 mm E61, Gaggia, or Bezzera portafilter with the same nominal diameter will therefore not have the correct connection. For tampers and distributors, the Solis model table specifies 58.5 mm; in this case, check the actual basket used.

Collapsible row

No. According to the supplier, the Solis Grind & Infuse Compact 1018 uses a 51 mm system. The 54 mm filter holders and 53.3 mm tools in this overview are not suitable alternatives. For the Compact, see the right-sized tampers. No portafilter for the Compact has been selected for this route. For an unknown model, first check the complete machine and basket combination.

Collapsible row

No. Start with one suitable tamper and a consistent dose. The 53.3 mm click tamper offers a different operating method for those who prefer a tactile moment of pressure. A separate distributor or a combination tool adds an extra step and is not a prerequisite for making espresso. Choose additional tools to address a specific issue in your routine, not because every product in the collection is supposedly necessary.
