Espresso Scales
Don't want to rely solely on your gut feeling to assess your espresso? With an espresso scale and shot glass, you can measure the amount of ground coffee, the espresso output, and the extraction time. Choose from coffee scales with a timer or automatic timer, a compact mini-model, and shot glasses with measuring marks. This way, you can compare successive extractions using the same measuring points and more accurately assess what changes when you adjust your espresso.

What do you measure during an espresso extraction?
When measuring espresso, you compare three data points: input, output, and time. Input is the amount of ground coffee you use. Output is the amount of espresso that ultimately ends up in your cup. Time indicates how long the machine takes to achieve that output.
An espresso coffee scalehelps you monitor weight and extraction time simultaneously. An espresso shot glass with measurementsshows the volume, but the amount of crema can affect a volume measurement. Weighing therefore provides a more accurate starting point when you want to compare different extractions.
Always use the same measurement method. Weigh the dose, place the cup or shot glass on the scale, and record both the output and the extraction time. This will help you better see which value changes when you adjust the grind size or dosage. Also read how to evaluate time and espresso output together.
Frequently Asked Questions
Collapsible row
With an espresso scale, you measure the amount of ground coffee and the espresso output in grams. A model with a timer also tracks the extraction time. This allows you to compare dose, yield, and time in the same way for each extraction.

Choose an automatic timer if you don't want to start and stop the timing manually every time. The auto-timer detects the beginning and end of the measurement, while the scale simultaneously records the weight of the espresso.
Collapsible row
A scale provides the most accurate comparison, as you measure the espresso in grams. A shot glass clearly shows the volume and the progress of the extraction, but crema can affect the volume measurement. You can therefore also use both tools together.

The mini coffee scale is primarily designed for compact setups and is lightweight and easy to store. Both the mini model and the regular scale measure in 0.1 gram increments and have a timer. The regular version is charged via USB-C and features a silicone non-slip mat.
Collapsible row
Yes, the three coffee scales can also be used for pour-over coffee. The weight measures the amount of coffee and water, while the timer keeps track of the brewing time. The espresso shot glasses are primarily intended for catching, viewing, and measuring espresso output.
