Breville Barista Home Workshop on your own espresso machine

A Breville home barista workshop is intended for home baristas who want to learn how to better use their own suitable semi-automatic espresso machine and coffee grinder. Geert-Jan will come to your home and examine your machine, grind setting, coffee beans, milk, taste preferences, and daily routine.

Many Breville models sold outside of Europe resemble machines known as Sage in the Netherlands. However, the design and model details may differ. Therefore, when making an inquiry, always specify the exact make and model of your espresso machine and coffee grinder.

During the workshop, you will not only learn which settings work at that moment. You will also learn how to assess dosage, espresso volume, extraction time, and taste when beans or conditions change. Your Breville delivers espresso, but not the explanation you need

A Breville offers various settings, but doesn't automatically explain why an espresso tastes sour, bitter, thin, or inconsistent. As a result, grind size, coffee quantity, and shot duration are often adjusted simultaneously. During the workshop, you will learn to separate these choices and evaluate them step by step.

  • The espresso always turns out differently

One shot runs fast and watery, while the next one almost stalls. You learn how fine or coarse the grinder is set, how much coffee you use, and how much espresso ends up in the cup. That way, you no longer change everything at once.

  • The coffee grinder remains unpredictable

A number on the grind setting is not a universal recipe. Different coffee beans, freshness, and dosage may require a new setting. You will learn when to grind finer or coarser and how to then check if the adjustment helps.

  • The milk becomes frothy, but not smooth

Large bubbles and dry foam often occur because air is added for too long or the milk doesn't roll properly. You'll practice when to add air, how to swirl the milk, and when to stop heating.

Why practicing on your own Breville pays off more

A setting that works well on a training machine may not produce the same result on your Breville. The coffee grinder, beans used, amount of ground coffee, filter basket, warm-up routine, and amount of espresso in the cup all influence the taste.

During a home workshop, you'll immediately see what happens with your own equipment. You weigh how much coffee you use, measure how much espresso goes into the cup, and observe how long it takes. Then you taste the result and change one logical setting.

As a result, you don't memorize a single number or a fixed recipe. You learn a method that allows you to readjust later when you open a different bag of coffee beans or notice that your espresso runs faster or slower.

You don't just learn which setting works now, but also how to readjust it yourself later.

Here's how your Breville workshop will proceed

First, we check the equipment and your specific needs. Then, you choose the workshop variant that suits what you want to learn.

Request your Breville workshop

1. We will check your machine and support request

When you apply, please provide the make and model of your Breville and coffee grinder. The workshop is intended for a working semi-automatic espresso machine with an integrated or separate working coffee grinder and a steam wand. Geert-Jan will assess in advance whether the equipment is suitable and which workshop variant makes sense. You also state the workshop address, the estimated number of participants, and what your main challenges are. This clarifies whether the workshop is practically feasible before an appointment is made.

2. You choose Barista Focus or Barista Master

Barista Focuslasts approximately 90 minutes. You choose a maximum of two main components: selecting coffee beans and cleaning, espresso extraction and grinder adjustment, or milk frothing and basic latte art. This option is suitable for a clear and defined request for help. Barista Masterlasts approximately 120 minutes and covers all three main components. The Masteris usually more logical if you have just purchased the Breville, are experiencing multiple issues at once, or want to go through the complete coffee routine from bean to milk drink.

3. You practice, measure, taste, and repeat

What you will be better able to assess after the workshop

You know which setting you check first

You will learn to distinguish between the wrong grind setting, too much or too little ground coffee, and too much or too little espresso in the cup. This will prevent you from randomly changing multiple settings at once.

What you will be better able to assess after the workshop

You train with your daily equipment

The explanation is linked to your Breville, coffee grinder, portafilters, milk jug, beans and kitchen setup. You won't have to translate the workflow from another training machine to your home afterwards.

What you will be better able to assess after the workshop

You can readjust later

Coffee beans change as they age, and a new bag can react differently. You will learn what measurements and taste perceptions you use to readjust.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Breville Barista Workshop

Which Breville espresso machines is the workshop suitable for?

The workshop is intended for a working semi-automatic Breville espresso machine with a working integrated coffee grinder or a working separate coffee grinder. The machine must have a portafilter and steam wand. Super-automatic machines, capsule machines, pod machines, manual lever machines, machines that only use pre-ground coffee, and defective machines or coffee grinders are not suitable. Always provide the exact model with your application.

What is the relationship between Breville and Sage?

Many espresso machines sold as Breville outside of Europe have a related model known as Sage in the Netherlands. However, not every version, model variant, and market version are automatically the same. Therefore, Breville remains the leading name on this page, but we always check the exact model number and version of the machine upon request.

What is the difference between Barista Focus and Barista Master?

We're here to make things easy for you! Your first step to getting the right size is checking out our size chart. It's got all the info you need to measure yourself and find your perfect fit. We also provide extra details on each product page, like the model's size and fit descriptions. If you're still not sure, our team is always happy to help. Just send us a message!

Can I participate with others or use multiple machines?

One to five participants fall within the same workshop price. The workshop will still last 90 or 120 minutes, meaning more participants will have less individual practice time. Guests may bring their own suitable espresso machine. Each additional machine costs changeover time and reduces the available treatment time per machine. More than five participants is only possible after prior assessment and usually requires a customized setup and quote.

What happens after I request the workshop?

You provide your name, workshop address, make and model of the Breville machine, make and model of the coffee grinder, the estimated number of participants, and the desired workshop variant. For Barista Focus, you also specify the desired main components. Geert-Jan assesses the request and sends a personalized total price and available dates. Upon approval, you will receive a confirmation and payment link. The workshop is definitively booked once payment has been received within 24 hours.

I have another question...

Personal coffee training for your Breville semi-automatic machine

A Breville home barista workshop is especially useful if you already own the machine but find that making good espresso is still too dependent on chance. For example, the coffee grinder is always on a different setting, the espresso runs faster on some days than others, or the milk gets large bubbles instead of a smooth texture.

During the training, we will examine your Breville, coffee grinder, coffee beans, and workflow together. You will learn how much ground coffee to use, how much espresso ends up in the cup, and how long it takes. These values are not an end in themselves. They help you understand why a shot tastes different and what adjustment makes sense afterward.
