Why this helps make better coffee

Too much foam on top and thin milk underneath make pouring difficult. You see very little white at first and then suddenly get a thick layer of foam in your cup.

Work towards a fine texture while steaming and keep the milk moving. A second pitcher can help with the transition to pouring, but it won't fix over-heated or coarsely frothed milk.

The two sizes give you a choice when frothing. An appropriate amount of milk leaves room for movement and foam; a pitcher that is too full limits that space.

With a second pitcher, you can recombine the milk before pouring. Work steadily and then pour smoothly, because milk and foam will separate again after steaming.

Choose your milk portion and practice a gentle transition to pouring

Who is this suitable for?

For the home barista who prepares small and larger milk portions alternately and wants to practice with two pitchers.

Useful if you want to learn to pour over before latte art. The pitcher helps with the technique, but the texture of your milk still depends on your steaming technique.

For whom is this not necessary?

If you already have two suitable milk jugs, a complete set is often unnecessary. You can also learn to steam and pour with just one good jug.

For much larger quantities of milk, even the largest jug in this set may be too small. Choose based on your usage; do not fill a jug to the brim.

  • Compatibility

The stated capacity is the total volume of the jug, not the amount of milk you can freely froth. Leave room for the vortex and the expansion of the milk.

Check whether the steam wand reaches far enough into the chosen jug and whether you can tilt the jug without hitting the worktop or the machine. A brand name alone does not guarantee this working space.

Advice from Geert-Jan the Barista Man

With over 10 years of experience in providing barista workshops at home, at businesses, and in Amsterdam, Geert-Jan is happy to share his advice.

Who is Geert-Jan?

From practice:

Practice with a fixed amount of milk and the same drink. This way, you can better notice what changes when you use a different steam wand position or a steadier pouring motion.

My advice:

My advice: use the smallest pitcher that gives you enough room for your pour and good milk movement. That way, you don't have to heat extra milk to fill the pitcher.

Only add the re-pouring when you are practicing the basics of steaming. A second pitcher gives you an extra step, not a guarantee of latte art.

Here's how to use this in your coffee routine

A barista tool only really works well when you know where it fits into your routine.

Get into the routine:

After the espresso: froth the milk, pour over it if necessary and serve

Usage:

After the espresso: froth the milk, pour over it if necessary and serve

Geert-Jan's tip:

Place the second pitcher within easy reach beforehand. That way, you don't have to leave the milk sitting after steaming while you're still looking for equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Italiaanse melkkannenset zilver met twee kanmaten

How many pots do I get?

This silver Italian set contains two jugs: one with a 350 ml capacity and one with a 500 ml capacity. That is the total jug volume; do not fill them to the brim when frothing.

Why should I pour milk over it?

A second jar allows you to re-collect the milk before pouring and choose your pouring grip. Do this carefully and then pour immediately.

Does the set fit my espresso machine?

There is no fixed machine connection. Check whether your steam hose has sufficient reach and whether you can move both pan sizes freely.

Does this set make latte art by itself?

No. Fine milk foam, the right ratio, and your pouring technique remain the deciding factors. Two pitchers give you opportunities to practice, but they won't master that technique for you.

Do I always have to use both jugs?

No. Use one pitcher if that works well for your drink and routine. The second one is an option when preparing your frothed milk, not a mandatory extra step.
