La Pavoni home barista workshop on your own espresso machine

Are you looking for personal help using your La Pavoni espresso machine? During this private barista workshop, Geert-Jan will come to your home, and you will work directly with your own pump-driven semi-automatic machine and coffee grinder. You will learn how to adjust the grinder finer or coarser, how much coffee to use, how much espresso ends up in the cup, and how to correct an espresso that is too fast, too slow, sour, or bitter.

You can choose between Barista Focusof approximately 90 minutes or Barista Masterof approximately 120 minutes. The workshop is intended for functioning La Pavoni semi-automatic machines with a built-in or separate coffee grinder and a steam wand. Classic La Pavoni lever machines are not covered by this workshop.

Geert-Jan primarily works in Utrecht, Central Netherlands, and surrounding parts of the Randstad. Other locations are possible upon consultation. After your request, you will receive a personal total price in advance.

Your La Pavoni works, but your espresso remains inconsistent

You have a good espresso machine and coffee grinder, but you don't get the same taste in your cup every day. One espresso runs too fast, the next tastes bitter, and when frothing milk, you're not sure exactly when you've added enough air.

  • Machine and grinder are not yet working well together

You don't know exactly if the grinder needs to be set finer or coarser. This changes the extraction time and the same coffee tastes good one time and sour, bitter, or watery the next.

  • You're changing multiple settings at once

You use more or less coffee, adjust the grinder and tamp the espresso by feel. Because multiple elements change simultaneously, it's difficult to see which adjustment truly helps.

  • Milk and maintenance remain separate issues

Milk becomes too thick, too hot or contains large air bubbles. At the same time, it is not always clear how often the brew group, steam wand and coffee grinder need to be cleaned.

Is this La Pavoni workshop suitable for my machine?

The workshop is suitable if you use a working, pump-driven La Pavoni semi-automatic with a built-in or separate coffee grinder and a steam wand. The training is not suitable for La Pavoni lever machines, fully automatic machines, capsule machines, or defective equipment. Therefore, always state the exact model in your application.

Who is this workshop for?

For beginner and experienced home baristas with a pump-driven La Pavoni semi-automatic who want to better tune their coffee grinder, correct inconsistent espresso, froth milk better, or better understand their daily workflow.

Why learning on your own La Pavoni is more rewarding

A general barista workshop may explain how espresso is theoretically made, but at home, you work with your own machine, grinder, beans, and milk. It is precisely this combination that determines what ends up in your cup every morning.

Therefore, during this workshop, you won't just look at a standard recipe. You will learn what happens when the grinder is set too fine or too coarse, when you use too much or too little coffee, and when too much or too little espresso ends up in the cup. You will measure multiple espressos, taste the difference, and adjust only one component at a time.

This creates a method that you can replicate on the same equipment after the workshop. You will be less dependent on isolated tips and will know better which step to check when the taste changes again.

You will not only learn how to make a good espresso, but also how to replicate it the next day.

Request price and availability

Step 1 — Have your machine and location inspected

You fill out the application form with your name, workshop address, city, the make and model of your La Pavoni, the model of your coffee grinder, the number of participants, and your preferred workshop variant. If you choose Barista Focus, you also state which two main topics you want to cover. Geert-Jan checks if the equipment is suitable and if the travel is practically feasible. Afterwards, you will receive a personal response with available dates and a total price. This way, you know the cost of the workshop and whether your machine fits within the training before making a reservation.

Step 2 — Practice on your own La Pavoni and grinder

At the beginning, Geert-Jan discusses how long you've been using the machine and where you're going wrong in your daily routine. Afterwards, you work on the chosen components. You evaluate coffee beans, adjust the coffee grinder finer or coarser, and measure how much coffee and espresso you use. You pull multiple shots, compare the taste, and learn to more precisely correct an espresso that is too fast, too slow, sour, or bitter. Barista Master also covers milk frothing, basic latte art techniques, and the most important cleaning routines.

Step 3 — Continue with a consistent home routine

For home baristas who want to get more out of their La Pavoni

One to five participants fall within the same workshop price. Please note that with more participants, the available practice time per person decreases. Frequently Asked Questions about the La Pavoni barista workshop

Is every La Pavoni espresso machine suitable for this workshop?

No. The workshop is exclusively for a working, pump-driven semi-automatic La Pavoni with an integrated or separate coffee grinder and a steam wand. Fully automatic machines, capsule machines, machines that only use pre-ground coffee, and defective equipment are not suitable. Always state the exact model of your machine and coffee grinder in your application so that Geert-Jan can check this in advance.

Is the workshop suitable for a La Pavoni Europiccola, Professional, or other lever machine?

No. Classic La Pavoni models where you build up the brewing pressure manually with a lever are not covered in this workshop. The training on this page focuses on pump-driven semi-automatic machines. If you are unsure about your model, please send the full model name via the inquiry form first. This will prevent a workshop from being prepared for equipment that does not fit within the agreed setup.

What is the difference between Barista Focus and Barista Master?

We're here to make things easy for you! Your first step to getting the right size is checking out our size chart. It's got all the info you need to measure yourself and find your perfect fit. We also provide extra details on each product page, like the model's size and fit descriptions. If you're still not sure, our team is always happy to help. Just send us a message!

What do I need to prepare for the workshop?

Ensure you have a working La Pavoni semi-automatic machine, a working integrated or separate coffee grinder, preferably at least 250 grams of your usual coffee beans, a suitable tamper, milk pitcher, cloths, and espresso or cappuccino cups. For frothing milk, you will need at least one liter of chilled milk. Additionally, ensure you have about two square meters of clear workspace, a power outlet, and a sink with running water in the immediate vicinity.

Can the La Pavoni training also take place at a hair salon, boutique, or other small business?

Yes, that is certainly possible. Please mention in your request that the La Pavoni is being used in a hair salon, boutique, office, or other business. Geert-Jan will then assess the equipment, the number of users, the location, and the purpose of the training. You will then receive a customized personal price and plan. A business request is therefore not automatically confirmed as a private workshop.

I have another question...

Personal La Pavoni coffee training on your own semi-automatic machine

A La Pavoni home barista workshop is intended for owners of a pump-driven semi-automatic machine who want to better understand their own equipment. You don't learn on an unfamiliar training machine, but on the La Pavoni and coffee grinder you use daily at home. This allows you to apply the same settings, actions, and measurements again afterwards.

The training can focus on coffee beans and cleaning, adjusting the coffee grinder, measuring and correcting espresso, frothing milk, and basic latte art. Barista Focuscovers a maximum of two main topics in approximately 90 minutes. Barista Mastercovers the full range in approximately 120 minutes and is the recommended choice when multiple components are not yet stable.
